first judge’s reports for 2022

Claribeaux is the new French inspired restaurant set in the imaginatively transformed Curlewis Golf Club. The recent improvements to décor and the food offerings are spectacular and the views of the golfcourse continue to be impressive.

Features include a large open fireplace, Robert Welch Cutlery, Schott Wine Glasses use of quality local produce and drinks, good service and unobtrusive music making full use of these features. Customer service was friendly, welcoming and prompt, and the prices, choices, portions sizes and value for money were good. Local Julius Meinl Coffee was served.

We enjoyed the “2020 Cat out of the Bag Shiraz” and “2017 Yes the Seal Sauvignon Blanc” from the extensive wine, beer and spirits list that includes many wines by the glass (particularly from the Bellarine region).  Our scallops were cooked perfectly and the herb and lemon gratin were excellent. The twice-cooked goat cheese souffle had golden and red beetroots,  pesto and cheese pieces, and light, creamy and was well seasoned. The French-inspired “Duck Pithivier” had perfect flaky pastry, braised duck, mushroom ragu and red cabbage, with brussels sprouts, creamy parsnip puree and an intense port wine jus.  The barramundi was crispy skinned and retained perfect moisture in the flesh. The Cassoulet included mussels, pippies, and beans, fennel, and tomato-flavoured fish broth. We also enjoyed and recommend the deliciously spiced quince crumble.

Claribeaux also features on-site accommodation making it ideal for corporate events, weddings and special functions.

Second judges report for 2022

Walking in to Clairbeaux (formerly Curlewis Golf Ciourse) from the cold on a chilly winter evening, we were greeted by the friendly FOH staff and the warmth of the fireplace gently filling the room. This set the mood for a relaxing evening. The beautifully renovated clubhouse with the amazing views of the golf course; during the daytime, provided an inspiring outlook. It’s a great venue for breakfast, or treat yourself to a French-inspired dinner with your family, friends or corporate friends.

The French-inspired menu showcases the culinary skills of the team Clairbeaux. The contemporary French menu inspired by the classics with a touch of modern fusion, using locally sourced produce, offers a range of choices to delight the culinary palate of the aficionado. There is on-site accommodation, which broadens the opportunity for corporate events, weddings, functions or special occasions.   The wine was served already poured in the glass, from the bar, and presented to our table. We sampled the 2020 Cat out of the bag Shiraz and the 2017 Yes the Seal Sauvignon Blanc. The wines were served at their correct temperatures.  The beverage list at Clairbeaux is extensive – from numerous beers, local and imported, to the spirits and wines. The comprehensive and carefully selection showcases a wide range of local, interstate and imported drinks. This is an excellent wine list and demonstrates a strong knowledge of the selections. There are numerous wines available by the glass, predominantly from the Bellarine region. This is wonderful to see.  Julius Meinl coffee came presented with simple latte art, minimal bubbles in the milk and a correct amount of froth was served. The coffee had a good balance of sweetness and acidity with a pleasant aftertaste on the palate. The coffee was served in appropriate vessels.  Julius Meinl is a local coffee supplier. The social media sites, Facebook and Instagram, are up to date and showcase the current menu and wine list on offer. You can book online through this website. The prices of the food and drinks and value for money of Clairbeaux are good and suited to the target ccustomers and style of restaurant. The portions sizes of the dishes were ample and correct for each course.
