If you ever wanted to go and have a fun night out at a venue whose staff have smiles that are infectious, quality food including wood oven pizzas made with passion in a venue that has the locals talking it up and trying to keep it to themselves, then Bean and Base is the place for me. The locals seem to have found their favourite coffee spot. I was so pleasantly surprised and look forward to my return.
What a surprise packet is Bean and Base. This was my first visit and wont be my last. The venue is warm and welcoming and the young lady that served us had such an infectious smile. The venue was booked out for the night and no wonder. The venue is divided into two rooms with simple candle lit wooden tables and the clever use of lighting, neon signage and great music made for a great atmosphere. Seating tucked into the two front shop windows and clever bench seating made for a fun night. We started with the sticky pork buns, which were rich in flavour and indeed sticky. The crunchy peanut crumbs and the fluffy buns made for a great start to the night. They were well presented and had us thinking about ordering another serve. As we were a table of two our waiter asked if we would prefer to order an additional bun as three buns was the serving size. Well done. Our prawn and ginger dumplings were full of flavour well presented on a individual serving spoon with some delicious crispy chilli oil and micro herbs. We sampled a southwest Chorizo pizza from the wood oven, which was nicely cooked with fresh onion and capsicum that made the pizza one of the best I have eaten. The white chocolate mud cake looked inviting and the coulis and fruit cut through the sweetness to make the dessert a good choice. The coffee served was well made and certainly looking at your social media pages Bean and Base has been able to get a good following for coffee. The whole package at Bean and Base is good value. In particular the Southwest pizza at $21.00 is excellent value. Offering wines by the glass under $10.00 is great value.
