Judges’ report in 2021

Alium is a beautiful and elegant restaurant housed within one of Bendigo’s most notable historic buildings at View Point Bendigo overlooking the Alexandra Fountain.  Each detail of the dining experience is high quality. The customer service is excellent, the wine list offers gems from the region and the food is beautifully presented and well made. If you are wanting to impress friends, a special date, or an important client this is the place to come.  Allium is designed to complement the building’s heritage features such as the high ceilings and pressed metal detailing. The mezzanine level is a perfect spot to appreciate the balance of modern and classic created by the lighting, monochrome photographs, quality fit out and the colour schemes.  Allium’s wait staff add to the quality experience – professional, attentive and ready to recommend dishes and wines to match.  The menu gives options for share dishes or individual entrées, mains and desserts. The entrées were interesting combinations and the mains were beautifully presented and delicious. The wine list is extensive  with a fantastic selection of Variatals with the majority from the Bendigo region. The cocktails are high quality too, the beers also come from quality local boutique breweries, and   the Coffee was excellent. This restaurant is lovely and a real bonus for the Bendigo dinning scene.

Special strengths

Lovely historic building. Very elegant and comfortable. Great customer service. Entrees including Squid with Piquillo Peppers and Pistachio, fried Eggplant with Caramel and Sesame. Mains including Mulloway with beautifully cooked fish. and duck breast with Madeira sauce.
