House of Jack Rabbit Cafe
first Judges REPORTS in 2022
Without doubt House of Jack Rabbit is one of the most iconic hospitality venues on The Bellarine Peninsula. With panoramic views overlooking Corio Bay and Port Phillip, and the City of Melbourne skyline seemingly a stone’s throw away, you can’t help but be exhilarated by the atmosphere and removed from the rat-race. House of Jack Rabbit tends to be really busy – which adds to the fun and atmosphere. We were greeted with a warm hello and immediately seated on a well-positioned table. The staff always seem to have friendly smiles and are quick to share a laugh with customers. The casual yet friendly style of House of Jack Rabbit is supported by the young staff who always seem to be happy and more than capable to offer advice on anything food, wine beer or ciders. On ordering my wine I asked for advice and the waiter was more the capable of assisting me and offered a taste of the wines. We ordered the local harvest selection to start. It was a generous serve and it presented well on a long rectangle platter. The local mussels and cured salmon for starters were delicious full of flavour, and a great showcase for local produce. The house-made piccalilli and potted smoked egg added colour to the platter. The seafood chowder was particularly good; the combination of creamy potato and corn worked a treat. Certainly great value for money with plenty of seafood and generous portions. The “Mars Bar cake” was one of three desserts on offer. The views, food and beverages here are all exceptional value for money and portion sizes of the meals were good. Many hospitality venues around the Australia would charge customers a great amount extra simply because of the views. Not the case with The House Of Jack Rabbit were the value for money is very good and the wonderful views are included in the price!
