Five Flags Hotel Campbells Creek
NOMINATED FOR 2021 GOLDEN PLATE AWARDS
now under new ownership
What the first judges said in 2021
Thank goodness for country pubs. The Five Flags (five minutes from Castlemaine) is the product of history and a modern-day approach to hospitality. The menu will keep those seeking pub-favourites happy but will also tingle the taste buds of the more adventurous. The effects of a cold and wet day were thwarted by the warm and inviting atmosphere and there are generous spaces and various zones to dine in and explore (inside and outdoors). The timber surfaces, brick work, and wood burning heater added to the cosiness inside the Five Flags.
Terrific menu options included bao and chicken Tostados in addition to quality Parmas, Burgers and fried fish. The range of vegetarian and vegan dishes was also impressive. Portions were generous. While many hospitality venues are lamenting the shortages of good staff that certainly wasn’t the case here. The staff are terrific, friendly and enthusiastic.
Now under new management there’s an honesty in this pub that impresses, and it’s reflected in the ambience, the service and the food.
