what the judges said in 2019
The Greek @ Customs House on Geelong Waterfront is a Bluestone heritage building built in 1855. The brightly lit room with blue glassware is evocative of the Mediterranean. There’s an alfresco area, private dining room and main dining room to choose from. The delicious meals feature generous portions and many choices including vegetarian, seafood and meat dishes. The “theatre” created by serving of the traditional Greek braised Lamb dish is delightful – wrapped in clay and broken open at the table to reveal the mouth watering aroma and flavours inside. Most dishes can be shared as they are generous portions and the well priced wine list is extensive and includes imported Greek and local wines. Customer service was friendly and questions were answered promptly. The Greek Customs House offers great value specials with complimentary wine, beer or soft drink available for the daily Express Lunch “Mezze Platter” (just $25), the “Menu from the Land” ($35 on Wednesday nights), and “Menu from the Sea” ($45 on Thursday nights).
Imposing colonial building on Waterfront. Finalist in Judges’ Gourmet Award for Best Dish of the Year (Twice Cooked Octopus). Great traditional Greek braised Lamb.
