SECOND JUDGES REPORTS FOR 2022 COMING SOON

What the judges said in 2021

A great marriage of pizza and hand crafted gins is waiting to be enjoyed at the Apollo Bay Distillery down at beautiful Apollo Bay (as if the Great Ocean Road needed another attraction). This buzzy, sun-filled temple to Bacchus slings smokin’ wood-fired pizzas and choice selection of the region’s prime beers, wines and spirits. The Apollo Bay Distillery will settle all your cravings for Prickly Moses beers and Flying Brick ciders, and their tight little wine list spotlights the finest drops from the Bellarine Peninsula. But, if you really need to appease the taste buds, opt for a locally hand-crafted gin flight to pair with your pizza of choice. Who knew pizza and gin were a thing? You can also overdose on tall gin cocktails before indulging in a perfectly brewed cup of locally roasted “Hello” coffee. A perfect weekend destination, the Apollo Bay Distillery is a terrific value-for-money example of the region’s booming hospitality industry.

Special strengths

Bright, light-filled, warm and welcoming space in a prime  location. Plenty of  well-spaced tables for interior and exterior dining. Open-plan servery-kitchen with massive wood-fired pizza oven.  Good presentation of the gin flight and the tasting notes .  Variety of pizzas defied expectation. Excellent Salt & pepper squid salad . Generous servings.  Locally roasted coffee expertly brewed and served at a correct temperature. Terrific value-for-money. A very impressive tight list of beers, wines and gin-based cocktails. Even more impressive is the focus on hyper-local providers such as Prickly Moses beers, Flying Brick Ciders and Bellarine Peninsula wines. This makes the cellar door a veritable showcase of the region’s booze. Congratulations!
