Whytes on the Esplande Torquay enjoys a vibrant coastal setting with views to the sea front and is a great eatery to relax and enjoy. It’s a family-friendly restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. Come during the day to enjoy the beach view or the magical atmosphere at night. There’s outdoor seating and inside there’s a fire to keep you warm during the cooler months with elegant copper lighting and framed photos stretch along the rear wall. Comfortable cane chairs with white tables set the scene along a large marble bar. The menus included lightly coated salt & pepper calamari cooked to perfection in fresh oil, that just melted in the mouth, accompanied with a lightly dressed rocket salad. The chorizo and spicy eggplant relish appetiser with crostini was also generous in size and the entree and appetisers were large enough to be shared. The spaghetti pescatore had an abundance of fresh seafood in a delicious spicy broth. The Wagyu rump came with a creamy Paris Mash and baby winter vegetables including turnips, carrots, brussels sprouts and snowpeas, with a sticky jus and crispy shallots – delicious. The chocolate fondant was decadent dark chocolate with a soft centre of pure indulgence and vanilla bean ice cream. Timing was good between courses and there were a good choice of dishes to suit a diverse tastes. Whyte’s has quite an extensive list and variety of beverages on offer, with helpful descriptions for each on the menu. The restaurant is affiliated with Lethbridge so there are a good selection of wines available by the glass, plus a diverse range of imported, national and local wines – mostly available by the bottle. Customer service was quick, friendly and attentive, and the value for money, given the location, service, quality and generous servings of foods was good.
