The Lord Nelson

An iconic Geelong pub steeped in history and a local favourite.

First Judge’s comments in 2018

The Lord Nelson Hotel has great street appeal and on this cold weekday night it was lovely to walk inside into the warmth through to the large bar and open dining area. The Hotel is obviously popular and well patronized, there was a friendly vibe to the room and the customer service was friendly too. The food at the Nelson was fresh and tasty and the serving sizes substantial. The vegetable croquettes were fried beautifully with the crumbs just the right colour. The local produce platter was impressive and very good value. The wine list was reasonably priced and quite large with a range of price points. The hotel has its own beer which seems like a good idea and good coffee was available.

Special strengths

Popular, comfortable and convivial pub. Fresh and tasty foods. Good value for money.

What the judges’ said in 2017

Good meals, generous servings and value for money

Diner at the refurbished Lord Nelson Hotel on the corner of Bellarine and Ryrie Streets Geelong is an absolute pleasure. The charming Victorian Parlour Dining room is cosy and comfortable. The mouth-watering menu offers delicious and generous sized entrees, mains and desserts, and great gluten free options. The wine, beer and drinks list was extensive, and the staff are delightful, professional and attentive. Pricing of meals and drinks was modest and the value for money impressive. This is not your average pub. We recommend the Lord Nelson!

Special strengths

Refurbished interior, friendly and helpful service, good drinks list and selection of meals, generous servings, family friendly and good value for money.
