First Judges’ Comments 2017
cultural food experience & exceptional value
Rook Sri Lankan Fusion is an unlicensed café in Malop Street Geelong that offers exceptional value for diners who appreciate delicious flavoursome foods made with care and respect. Tables were well spaced, the venue spotless, and photographs of Sri Lanka and tea culture enliven the dining room. There were two styles of seating to choose from. We found the lower tables with club chairs comfortable and snug and the open kitchen added entertainment value. The service was friendly and helpful, with the owner Yeti happy to chat about his beloved Sri Lanka and explain the menu. There are many menu options for people wary of strongly spiced dishes so groups can book with confidence that all will enjoy themselves. Stand outs included the fish cutlets (mackerel), chicken pan roll, hoppers, dahl, beetroot curry, Coconut Sambla and Seeni Sambal. The well-made coffee was from Sensory Lab and with the Café’s connection with Sri Lanka the teas were served with suitable and respectful ceremony. There’s a big range of teas to choose from and individual timers are provided to ensure perfect brewing. Rook Sri Lankan Fusion provides a most enjoyable cultural food experience and exceptional value for money. Once you’ve experienced Rook you are more than likely to return.
