What the first Judges said in 2019
Shiraaz in Malop Street Geelong is a quality Indian restaurant that ticks all the boxes and would hold it’s own in any state capital in Australia. Soft lighting, discrete background music, quality furnishings, crockery, flatware and linen napkins add to the quality ambience. Your host Ashwani oversees the front of house and Patrons are immediately made to feel welcome. The menu caters for both the experienced and newcomers to Indian Cuisine, and Vegetarians will love the variety and flavours on offer. The entrée of Chicken Tikka was flavoursome, the side of coriander, lemon juice and green chilli chutney was a great accompaniment, and the vegetable samosa’s wrapped in excellent crisp pastry. The Rogan Josh and Lamb Masala were equally good. Another stand out was the dessert Gulab Jamun – Cottage cheese dumplings with Vanilla ice Cream. Shiraaz offers a good beverage selection including Kingfisher Beer, mocktails, cocktails, and a range of fine teas. The portions at Shiraaz are generous and the value for money for this quality Indian dining experience was very good.
