Situated at the top end of Hargreaves Street, the Percy and Percy Cafe has won a strong and loyal following of cool customers since it opened in 2013. Percy and Percy (named after two former owners of the corner building) has been transformed by Elisha Jeffrey and partner into a convivial light-filled cafe with a great buzz, great menu, and several smart inside and alfresco eating areas.

what the judges said (2016-2017)
Percy and Percy in Bendigo knows what it is, who it’s customers are and what they want. It’s the local café close to homes and offices that serves wholesome foods of quality quickly and without fuss. The Cafe is friendly, easy on the eye, bright, cheery, clean with photos on the walls of the cafe as a general store in the ‘old days’ and artworks for sale. The food not only looked appealing but was very tasty. The scrambled eggs were simple and delicious. The sides of tomatoes and spinach were lifted with a splash of balsamic and lemon olive oil respectively. The Persian eggs were flavoursome and the toast thick and of good texture. The scones were among the best I have ever eaten – light in texture but robust enough to hold the jam – perfect. It’s nice to see the origin of the food identified and the timing of service was perfect. There is a team of young girls working at Percy and Percy under the observant eyes of the owner. The customer service matched the food and the cafe perfectly. The staff have been trained well are enthusiastic and remind you of a netball team working with a common purpose. The locally roasted coffee was flavoursome and served at a good temperature with a rich crema, the Inglewood milk was full-bodied and delicious, and there were non-dairy options for those who prefer them, Prices were more than reasonable for good quality freshly prepared foods and customer service ($13 for a bowl of quality granola and a coffee). Two cooked dishes with extra sides, a freshly squeezed juice and three great coffees was around $60 – very reasonable. Enjoyable and recommended.
