Number One Restaurant at RACV Torquay is stylish, modern and offers glorious views of the golf course and Bass Strait, and there’s a welcome open fireplace for cold winters evenings. Tables are well spaced and the dining room well lit. You are greeted promptly and warmly by attentive staff and asked for special dietary requirements before being given appropriate menus and shown to your table. The menu is seasonal and offers fresh, flavoursome, local produce, beautifully presented. We enjoyed the warm Zeally Bay Sourdough and soft shell crab. The crab was crispy, cooked to perfection with a fresh salad of mesculin, chilli and radishes, and accompanied with mild quince aioli. The risotto was creamy, delicious and perfectly cooked. The pork scotch just melted in the mouth, and the swede mash was creamy and velvety. The accompaniment of dill and tart red cabbage balanced the fattiness in the pork perfectly. The steak was cooked just as requested and accompanied with a flavoursome jus with bone marrow speckled over the steak. The roasted onions and creamy mash potato completed the dish,and the side of roasted beetroot with caraway, chervil and chive had great flavour combinations. The Banana Entremet dessert was rich and creamy. The coconut granola, meringue, passionfruit sorbet was also excellent. All dishes where balanced in their flavours and textures, with excellent presentation and good timing between courses. The beverage list is extensive, ranging from numerous cocktails beers, local and imported, spirits and local and regional wines. Our choices, where the delightful 2017 Provenance Pinot Gris and the 2016 Brown Magpie Pinot Noirby were poured at our table. The portion sizes at the restaurant were ample and the prices good given the quality, presentation and service standards. Number One Restaurant RACV Torquay is a great choice for special occasions, intimate dinners, and business lunches where a touch of class is the order of the day.

RACV’s Number One Restaurant in Torquay continues to deliver world class dining experiences and is a huge supporter of local producer. Both the exterior and interior are impressive and there are fireplaces that add warmth to the stylish decor. Beyond the pre-dinner lounge you arrive in the well designed dining room which is both enormous and comfortable. Food quality and presentation was excellent. Stand-outs included the Sher Wagyu Beef, Confit Smoked Salmon, Pork Fillet, Duck Breast, Treacle pudding with lovely brandy custard and the amazing Croissant Ice Cream. And the range of wines, beers and ciders is exceptional. These impressive qualities are multiplied by Number One’s passionate, professional and helpful wait staff. From the moment you walk in till that final goodbye every detail has been well planned and delivered. For all these reasons Number One rates as one of the best restaurants in the region.
