From remote villages in Papua New Guinea to high-profile city establishments, Daniel Brehaut’s world of food has taken him on a roller-coaster ride … be it French, Spanish or, now, Mexican. After moving to Geelong and working as head chef at Empire Grill, Brehaut opened the Black Bull tapas bar and restaurant five years ago with his wife Tamara. Now they have opened a second restaurant just two doors away.
The owners of Black Bull Tapas Bar & Restaurant have added another good culinary destination to downtown Geelong scene.
Mojo Mama – a Mexican-inspired restaurant recently opened its doors to the public and is serving up a range of street-style food that is vibrant, flavoursome and fun. The Mojo Mama menu is not large but there are plenty of good things to choose from. Most are gluten-free, comprising tacos, quesadillas and a handful of mains. Flavour combinations are innovative and fascinating, making the choice of dishes difficult, but banquets that encourage sharing help solve this lovely problem and the presentation of all dishes was impressive. The sweetcorn ice-cream with candy popcorn might sound a little left of centre, but the tastes are truly divine.
The Mexican inspired beverage list at Mojo Mama has something for everyone – including the kids – from a colourful range of Jarritos (Mexican soda) through to some interesting Tequilas for the more adventurous adults. If you don’t feel like a lip, sip and suck of a shot of Tequila, perhaps a tangy margarita or Corona is more your style.
The service at Mojo Mama friendly and good, and this new Restaurant is an exciting and enjoyable addition to the Geelong dining scene that offers good value for money.
