The Local Café in Lydiard Street North, Ballarat has street appeal with its dark exterior, bud lights, tables and chairs outside, and gorgeous logo on the window. Inside there’s a contemporary Scandinavian feel – blonde woods, smart graphic prints, clean and welcoming. This is a friendly cafe where diners can expect good honest, hearty and flavoursome foods prepared with care and imagination. It is wonderful to see the range of local suppliers listed on the menu. The Tuki lamb pie was a standout with a buttery light pastry, the meat flavoursome and tender, the light and lemony quinoa salad and vinegary relish, and the sweet potato crisps spot on. The kale, flash fried and salty, was the best I have ever tasted. And the coffee was good. Customer service was quick, friendly and informative. Given the quality of the foods and drinks the Local offered good value for money.
