2017 Judges’ comments
The interior of Shalimar Indian restaurant in Mercer Street Geelong features rich colours of deep ruby red and gold, large chandeliers, tables beautifully set, contrasting coloured tablecloths, and quality club chairs. Customer service was friendly and helpful. There was a good range of meals on offer that you could easily return to again and again. Stand-outs included the traditional papadums and house made chutney appetisers. The Masala Dosa was ight and fluffy with potato perfectly seasoned. Our Paneer was made in house and served sizzling, silky smooth and the vegetables savoury with a hint of chilli. Our Lamb Vindaloo, served in a silver dish, had just the right amount of heat, finely tuned with spices and a little sharpness from the vinegar. The lamb was moist without falling apart. The Daal with lentils and kidney beans were perfectly cooked. The Naan was, fresh, spongy and served in the traditional way of separate silver dishes to share with rice. The Gulab Jamun dumplings (dessert) had the authentic flavours of India with a nice hint of cardamom. Shalimar offers an extensive list of wines and beers with some Indian beers. Everything on the menu was well priced and offers a good dining experience and value for money.
Indian influenced decor, friendly and helpful service, good range of delicious Indian foods, good range of drinks, good value for money.
