The Gallery Cafe Bendigo

Stylish licensed cafe at Bendigo Art Gallery

first judges report in 2018

This is a charming eatery far better than most attached to galleries elsewhere. Its strength lies in an uncomplicated yet creative food selection supported by an imaginative beverage list that features a preponderance of excellent local vineyards. There are dishes suitable for children, amongst the adult dishes, and staff appeared sympathetic to parents, children, as people with disabilities, yes and even art lovers. The dining spaces are high, filled with natural light, with relaxing views across the adjoining parkland. The Gallery offers good value for money and the quality of foods, beverages and service was good. Access to the eatery is through numerous high galleries of wonderful artworks, ancient and modern, so that one arrives at the café peaked for a gastronomic revitalisation.

the art of dining in Bendigo

The Gallery Café in Bendigo offers a great dining experience in a stylish setting. Outside it is grand and impressive. Inside it was warm and comfortable, modern and stylish. The outlook over the gardens is wonderful and the elegant wooden furniture worked perfectly with the modern architecture.  The customer service here is very professional and exceptional. Nothing is missed from start to finish and our waiter was efficient, friendly and engaging. I really enjoyed my jerk chicken – it had great flavours and was beautifully cooked. The steak sandwich was fresh and tasty and we particularly liked the portion sizes of both dishes – perfect for lunch. We also liked the simplicity of each dish, letting the ingredients shine through. The Gallery is a licensed cafe with a good selection of quality wines, beers and cocktails. As we sat down for lunch I was asked if I’d like a glass of Prosecco, which was defiantly appropriate, and the coffee was very good. Although incredibly stylish the the Gallery Cafe is very good value for money with delicious and well presented dishes for less than $20. An enjoyable outing to the Gallery, a delicious lunch and good wine – what could be more civilised than that?
