what the judges said (2016-2017)
Cortille Café in Lyttleton Terrace, Bendigo is a vibrant on-trend café offering slick service and good coffee. As you enter your attention is grabbed by a retro caravan serving serious coffee. The menu covers all bases, with breakfast and lunch running side by side all day, fresh produce, great flavour combinations and gluten free and other diet driven factors. The menu shows considerable thought and effort. The beef brioche bun, was a popular choice, the cola in the braise had a nice sweetness in the pork, the brioche bun perfect, and the dish completed with nicely fried kipflers and a tasty Aioli. The best way to describe the “Nouc Cham” dish is”fresh” – great crunch to the slaw enhanced by shallots, the chicken perfectly poached with a subtle flavor of coconut. The dessert selection was impressive. The wait staff did a great job, which added to the atmosphere. The long queue for coffee testified to its quality. My latte was spot on – great flavor, nice sheen, impressive coffee art. This cafe was serious about its coffee, and the prices were moderate providing good value for money.
